This is a one of a kind nature swap subscription box that was created in memory of my two teenagers Gwyn and Rowyn who passed away on November 7th, 2022 in a car accident. Gwyn and Rowyn had a love for collecting items they found on their many nature outings. They enjoyed swapping items with others and purchasing items to expand their collections. And they loved sharing about and showing their collections to others. So it only seemed fitting to create something in their memory that will continue to encourage budding naturalists around the country to get outdoors to learn about and explore the natural world!
Each month your Junior Naturalist will receive a new nature specimen with a specimen trading card, a naturalist equipment item, nature swap postcard and prepaid return postage, 2 page activity sheet, scavenger hunt or journal page, and access to an additional private resource page on our website (with book and video recommendations, extension activities, fieldtrip recommendations, and more). The cost will be $45 per month, discounts will be offered for committing to 3, 6 or 12 month options. We will also offer a sibling discount if you order more than one box per household, email us for a code. We accept AZ Empowerment Scholarship Account funds through Class Wallet. This subscription box is for all ages. We will have resources and activities geared towards PreK-12th grade on the private resource page. Currently we only ship to United States.
Junior Naturalists can earn critter coins by sending back specimens they discover, along with the completed postcard, to be added to the Cabinet of Curiosities (prepaid return postage provided). The more details they provide about the specimen the more coins they will earn. Additional coins can be earned by completing reading logs, writing/drawing in their nature journal, creating videos/brochures about their specimen, participating in community science projects, collecting litter, and going birding. The first month will included a guide about collecting ethically and legally.
Junior Naturalists can visit the online nature shop to view specimens from around the country and redeem their accumulated coins at any time to receive new specimens for their collection.
We are also seeking donations of items to add to the cabinet of curiosities. If you would like to donate items please email us for the address. We can accept natural items like skulls, antlers, rocks, shells, fossils, plant part, dead insects, snake sheds, insect molts, dead insects, etc. We cannot accept bird items unless they are from a domestic bird, non US native bird or hunted bird species.
Thank you for helping to continue to help keep Gwyn and Rowyn's memory alive.

The Cabinet of Curiosities Mission
Our mission is to immerse Junior Naturalists in connecting with the natural world and to build their sense of place. And to get families outdoors to explore nature and make discoveries together. The Cabinet of Curiosities will help Junior Naturalists learn about and explore nature through cross-curricular, hands-on, experiential activities, so that they will develop knowledge about, love for, and dedication to nature's wonders. Junior Naturalists can then swap their discoveries with other naturalists around the country to grow their collection and learn more about other ecosystems.
The Cabinet of Curiosities Values
Educating Children Outdoors and The Cabinet of Curiosities supports stewardship of the living world and the preservation of biodiversity. We believe in providing experiences of wonder through nature immersion and exploration, fostering compassion for one another and the natural world, building a community through teamwork and collaboration, and teaching responsibility so that Junior Naturalists are capable of making rational or moral decisions. We encourage Junior Naturalists to thoughtfully consider the effects of their actions when enjoying the natural world and to tread lightly as they go, and never take more than what they need.
