Maricopa County Arizona Chapter - Glendale

Location: Thunderbird Conservation Park

We are offering 3 programs in the West Valley for the 2022-2023 school year.  Click on the program below to jump to the corresponding section.


ECO Trailblazers - 1st-3rd

ECO Explorers - 4th-7th

ECO Teen Naturalists - 8th-12th 


All programs take place at Thunderbird Conservation Park - 22800 N 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85310

ECO Trailblazers

AGES/GRADES:

ECO Trailblazers is for children in K/1st-3rd grade (approximate ages 6-9 yrs old). Trailblazers offers a combination of hands on learning activities, exploratory play,  guided nature walk, loose parts play, nd an art/craft project. 


This program is optional drop off.

TUITION:

There are only 15 openings for each program! (we are increasing the West Valley group to 20 openings)

Full year payment option: $300 for the year / Sibling discount $280 ($20 sibling discount applied)*

½ semester payment option: $160 Fall, $180 Spring / Sibling discount $150 Fall, $170 Spring  

*You save $40 if you choose to pay for the year.

The  West Valley - Thunderbird Conservation Park Glendale program will meet every other Monday 10:00 am-2:00 pm for 17 weeks. 


Each class will follow a similar format:

10:00 am - Exploratory Play,  Nature Journaling
10:45 am - Learning Activity
11:15 am - Specimen/Wildlife Highlight
11:30 am - Lunch and Exploratory Nature Play
12:30 pm - Loose Parts and Storytime
1:00 pm - Hike
1:30 pm - Craft/Art Project
2:00 pm - Class Ends

ECO Explorers

AGES/GRADES:

ECO  Explorers is for children in 4th-7th grade (approximate ages 8-12 yrs old). Explorers offers a combination of hands on learning activities, exploratory play, a guided nature walk, animal highlight, community science participation, scientist/history highlight, and an art/craft  project.


This program is optional drop off.

TUITION:

There are only 15 openings for this program!

12:30 pm - Craft/Art Project
1:15 pm - Exploratory Play
2:00 pm - Class Ends

ECO Teen Naturalists

AGES/GRADES:

Our ECO Teen Naturalist program will be for children in 8th-12th grade (approximate ages 13-17 yrs old) are interested in pursing environmental related careers or may wish to become Master Naturalists one day and volunteer with local organizations. This program will be more volunteer and citizen science based.


This program is optional drop off. Teens who drive may bring themselves to class. 

TUITION:

Full year payment option: $230 for the year / Sibling discount $210 ($20 sibling discount applied)

½ semester payment option: $125 Fall, $145 Spring / Sibling discount $115 Fall, $135 Spring  

*You save $40 if you choose to pay for the year.

The West Valley - Thunderbird Conservation Park Glendale program will meet every other Friday 10:00 am-12:30 pm for 17 weeks.


Each class will be a bit different since our citizen science and stewardship projects will vary. Many of the topics will compliment each other.

Teens will also be encouraged to attend fieldtrips. These will be about every other month and should be free or very inexpensive. Fieldtrip locations will mostly be to college labs like the UofA Dendrochronology Lab, ASU Lichen Herbarium, ASU Biomimicry Center.

In addition they will also be encouraged to attend online webinars and/or in person lectures with the teacher.  We will have follow up discussions afterwards. Some of the organizations include Phoenix Zoo Conservation Speakers, Phoenix Audubon, Desert Botanical Gardens, North American Invasive Species Management Association,  etc.
